A wonderful tour of Porto and the Alto Douro region of Portugal.

 

The Alto Douro became the first demarcated and regulated region in the world in 1756.

 

Enjoy the amazing scenery as the Douro river meanders through spectacular landscapes, see the vines planted on steep slopes along the banks of the river.

 

Day 1

​

On arrival at Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro airport we  travel by luxury coach to our winery hotel situated along the Douro river in Lamego.

​

After checking in to the hotel, there is time to unwind and relax before having a tour of the winery and your first tasting of wines from the Douro valley.  In the evening enjoy dinner whilst overlooking spectacular river views.

Day 2

 

After breakfast, we visit a well known Quinta where we will take part in one of the most important aspects of the wine making process, the harvest of the grapes.   We will begin by hand picking the grapes in the vineyard, a wonderful experience, and enjoy a well earned authentic harvest lunch accompanied by Douro wines and port.

 

After lunch, we take our place at the sorting table, selecting only the best grapes to be processed.  Following that we will have a little fun, treading the grapes in the traditional stone lagars while joining in with the singing and cheering!!   If you don’t fancy the treading, you can just join us soaking in the frivolous atmosphere, and finally we will have a tasting of the Quinta’s wonderful wines.

 

On our return to the hotel the evening is yours to relax and reflect on the days experiences.

 

Day 3

 

After breakfast  the day begins with a drive along the Douro, taking in the beautiful scenery.  We stop for a  winery tour and tasting followed by a relaxed lunch, before travelling to Porto where you will check in to your hotel close to the Ribeira near to O Palácio da Bolsa for the next two nights.  After checking in the rest of the day is yours to enjoy the waterfront ambience.

 

Day 4

 

This morning is yours to explore Porto, the shops, museums, cathedrals, whatever takes your fancy.

In the afternoon, we shall be visiting the famous port wine caves for a tour of the cellars and a tasting of the magnificent port wines.  The dinner this evening will be at a traditional Portuguese restaurant overlooking the Port Wine caves in the Ribeira. 

​

Day 5

​

After breakfast and a leisurely check out from the hotel, you return to Porto airport for your journey home.
