VIP Luxury Wine Tour
5 Day trip from £1,630
Vine growing and wine making has been a local tradition in the Rioja region since medieval times.
Although it is the smallest province in mainland Spain, there are over 500 wineries producing the internationally renowned quality wine.
Experience traditional ancient cellars and state of the art wineries with modern architecture.
We will meet at Bilbao airport and our luxury coach will take us to our four star Spa hotel in Laguardia. Spend the rest of the day relaxing at the hotel taking advantage of the wonderful oil and wine spa.
There will be an informal wine tasting in the hotel cellar, as an introduction to the wonderful Riojan wines, followed later in the evening by dinner in the hotel restaurant.
After breakfast we will travel to Briones in Rioja Alta to visit Dinastia Vivanco, a winery and the museum of the culture of wine.
The internationally recognised museum takes you on a revealing voyage through the history and culture of wine and exhibits an amazing collection of art and archaeology.
We then visit the winery and this will be followed by lunch in the restaurant with wonderful views of the surrounding vineyards.
After lunch we travel to Gimileo, a small village in the heart of the Rioja wines.
Here we will visit Bodegas Santalba, a family run winery, for a tour of the winery and vineyards, and a tasting before heading back to the hotel for a free evening to enjoy the ambiance of the walled medieval village of Laguardia.
Today is a free morning in which you can relax at the hotel, by the pool, enjoy the spa facilities, or explore Laguardia further.
We will meet late afternoon in Laguardia to visit two wineries whose cellars are located beneath the townhouses.
Our first visit is to Bodegas Carlos San Pedro Pérez de Viñaspre, a very small traditional winery. The family have been producing wines in Laguardia for more than 500 years and the cave we will visit is more than 600 years old.
This cave is one of the few traditional underground caves in Laguardia that is still in use as a bodega.
We then walk a few minutes to Casa Primicia. This is the oldest building in Laguardia, dating back to 1050 and it is where wine began to be made in Laguardia in the 15th Century. Here we take a journey back in time through the true history of wine.
This evening, you get a chance to reflect on these wonderful visits over a traditional Riojan dinner in a beautiful castle in Laguardia.
After breakfast we travel to Samaniego in the Rioja Alavesa region to visit a state of the art winery.
We will have a tour of the winery and a wine pairing lunch in the restaurant with magnificent views of the surrounding vineyards.
After a leisurely lunch we head back to the hotel and the rest of the day is free time.
Today we will visit the City of Wine, Marqués de Riscal in Elciego.
Founded in 1858 this is one of Rioja’s oldest wineries, producing 5 million bottles of wine a year.
We have a tour of the winery and a tasting followed by lunch at the iconic vineyard hotel.
After this amazing visit and lunch our wine tour comes to an end and we depart for the airport in Bilbao.
We hope you will take home some wonderful memories of your time with us in Rioja.
